Meet Sarah
Biography
I was born in California, and moved with my family to Arizona and then to Texas as a child. I graduated from Devine High School in Devine, Texas, and entered the U.S. Air Force Academy as a member of the class of ’87. On graduation and commissioning, I began an active duty Air Force career of more than 31 years, serving all over the U.S. and the world. My military specialty – communications and computer systems – grew over time to encompass cyber operations and cyber security.
During my time in the Air Force I served in several leadership and staff positions. I led military and government civilians in squadron, group, and wing commands, and policy development and budgeting at the highest levels of the Air Force and the Department of Defense. I taught computer science at the Air Force Academy, was an executive officer and a general’s aide, attended the Air Command and Staff College and the Army War College, and served as the Vice Director of the Defense Information Systems Agency. I retired from active military service as a major general in 2018.
I bought land in Bayview, on Lake Pend Oreille, in 2013. I’ve lived in a lot of places around the country and the world, but I have always considered myself to be from the West. With two of my sisters nearby in Washington, and the incredible natural beauty of northern Idaho, I knew I had found my forever home. In 2018, with retirement imminent, I (more accurately, my excellent contractor) began to build my house, and I took possession of it in 2020. After my retirement from the Air Force, I became a full-time caregiver to my father, and researched and wrote a book on the science of depression. I joined RAND Corporation as an Adjunct after my father moved into assisted living and then passed away. I left RAND to run for office at the end of 2025.
Many people ask why I am running for Congress. I am doing it out of sheer frustration. Our country has serious problems to deal with, and our elected leaders seem completely unable to work together to get the job done. We need people there who work for us, not their party leaders, and are committed to solving the problems and moving us forward into security and prosperity.
